Getting 30 percent of the ballots, Hillary Clinton emerged as the
favorite presidential candidate of Yakima County Democrats in an
unofficial poll taken Sunday during the group’s holiday party at El
Porton Restaurant.
John Edwards, with 20 percent, was second choice while Barak Obama and
Bill Richardson tied for third place, each with 17 percent.
The 42 attendees scattered their votes among the seven active Democratic
presidential candidates and even tossed in one for Al Gore for vice
president.
Obama, who topped Hillary Clinton 22 to 13 in a poll of Kittitas County
Democrats a couple weeks ago, was the Yakima Democrats’ pick for the
vice presidential slot on the 2008 ticket.
The Yakima presidential vote: Hillary 11, Edwards 6, Obama 5, Richardson
5, Kucinich 2, and Dodd 1.
For vice president: Obama 7, Richardson 5, Edwards, 3, Joe Biden 3,
Clinton 3, Kucinich 2, Al Gore 1.
County chair Paul George explained that total presidential ballots did
not equal 42 as some attendees were uncertain choosing to await results
of the Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina caucuses.
