First off, thanks to all of you for taking part in our Caucuses,
Convention and FDR Dinner and making them the biggest and best in the
history of the Yakima Country Democratic Party.
It is rewarding to see what we can do when we work together – all
committed to attaining our major goals: the re-election of Gov.
Gregoire, election of a Democratic president and election of Democratic
candidates for Congress, the County Commission and the Legislature.
Right now, though, we have other important Party tasks – and none
involves asking you for money.
I am appealing to you to volunteer a little bit of your time by becoming
part of a two-person team that gives out free coffee at the Indian John
Hill Rest areas on Interstate 90, some 55 miles west of Yakima.
We have been approved by WSDOT for five 3-day stints this summer. That
allows us to collect MONEY FROM OTHER PEOPLE. A portion of Indian John
Hill proceeds will help pay the costs of our Democratic Booth during the
Central Washington State Fair Sept. 26-Oct. 5.
Your job will be dispensing FREE coffee, tea, cocoa, lemonade and
cookies – and relying on travelers to drop $1 or some coins in the
donation can. Most do.
The first fund raiser starts Tuesday May 27 (the day after Memorial
Day), and goes through Wednesday May 28 and Thursday May 29 – WESTBOUND.
The Central Committee has charge of this stint.
Each team will work an 8-hour shift: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.; 2 p.m. to 10
p.m.; and 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. In 2007, net profits ranged from $600 to
$1,800.for our five party organizations who work the rest areas..
We can match up volunteers who don’t drive with volunteers that do and
that happens quite a bit.. Of course, it’s better if volunteers choose
their own partner.
And anyone coming in a camper is especially desirable.
You can volunteer by calling Jo Tollefson (678-4094) or by e-mail at
jot at nwinfo.net or Paul George (966-5097) e-mail pgeorge at yakima.net.
Calls may also be made to Deb Hunt 966-2274.
Jo and Lucy Cates (453-5818) will set up the stand May 27.
Thanks for your consideration. With your help, Indian John Hill can
become a profitable summer activity. It is also fun.
Paul George, Chair
966-5097
