    Ruth Lawson,  longtime treasurer of the Central Committee, died Dec. 
26, 2008 at the home of her son Rodney and Laura Schmahl in Yakima.
    Ruth, 86, was forced to resign as treasurer in mid-summer, after 
being diagnosed with colon cancer.  She spent part of last week in 
Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and that allowed a number of friends to 
make brief visits.
    During her illness, Ruth also received care at the home of another 
son, Roger and Georgine Schmahl.
    A lifetime Democrat, Ruth was an accountant who generously gave of 
her time to community organizations. For years, she did the books for 
the Women's Century Club and managed the food bank near the Southeast 
Yakima Community Center.
    Funeral arrangements will be announced by Keith & Keith.
